Within a wildlife estate, adjoining the World Heritage Site of the Swartberg Nature Reserve, the area is malaria-free and boasts an abundance and variety of wildlife.
Meticulous attention to detail, a large well equipped farm-style kitchen, large dining room, lounge, individually accessed spacious bedrooms, expansive patios and a crystal clear pool make the Lodge a wonderful retreat.
The Lodge is serviced daily by our staff. The wonderful kitchen beckons the enthusiastic cook while the outside dining area with mountain views includes a braai facility. The lapa, with open fire pit, provides a perfect location for sundowners or to enjoy a spectacular night sky away from the impact of city lights.

This is an ideal location for an extended family celebration, a getaway for a group of friends, or simply an escape to experience the wonderful surrounds.

The estate is home to nearly twenty species of large mammal, including the largest antelope of all, the Eland. Kudu, Oryx, Nyala, Wildebeest, Hartebeest, Blesbok, Springbok, Impala, Lechwe and Giraffe are easily viewed, among others. The endangered Cape Mountain Zebra is well established.
The vegetation varies from Mountain Fynbos to Succulent Karoo and Renosterveld. Protea species can be found in the higher-lying areas, while aloes dominate the landscape on the lower slopes. Most plants flower in the spring, while the protea species tend to flower in autumn, and the bright aloe flowers light up the landscape in winter.
The rich floral diversity attracts a wide variety of birdlife, from sunbirds to raptors to Blue Cranes.
Free of large predators, there is a unique opportunity for the more energetic to explore on foot and the area is ideal for mountain biking.
This Lodge is located on the Swartberg Private Wildlife Estate at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains, in the Little Karoo. The Lodge is 57km from Oudtshoorn, 37km from Calitzdorp, and 23km off Route 62 (named one of the world’s top ten road trips by CNN in 2017). The Estate borders the Swartberg Nature Reserve, a proclaimed World Heritage Site as part of the Cape Floristic Region. The World famous Cango Caves are a leisurely and scenic drive from the Lodge. Whilst the Lodge is on an untarred road, it is of good quality, and any standard vehicle can easily traverse the road.
Swartberg Private Wildlife Estate:
The Lodge is the only commercial property on the Estate, the others being residential. These range from permanent residences to holiday homes, and a few properties have not yet been built upon. Each property on the Estate is individually owned, with its own title deed. All properties have traversing rights over all properties. The game on the estate is owned separately by the “Animal Rights Owner”. The Estate is managed under the control of a Land Owners’ Association, with all properties subscribing to the rules of the LOA, and paying monthly levies to the Association.
Please ask for our Appendixes 1 & 2, the first of which provides the outline of Portion 3 in relation to the other properties of the Estate, and the second of which provides an aerial view of the portion (prior to the redevelopment of the buildings into the current lodge).
Note, there is a registered servitude over the property in order to provide access to a nearby house. The actual location of the road to this house is not located on the registered servitude.

The Lodge currently operates predominantly as a “holiday rental” property, providing exclusive use of the facility. However, arrangements are made to provide catering when required by a group, and a local caterer is available. The caterer is accommodated on site for the duration of the booking.

The Lodge is fully furnished and equipped and has an open game viewing vehicle and a Ford Ranger bakkie which is used for staff transport.
The sale includes all furniture with a few minor exceptions of a personal / sentimental nature.
